Stewarding Value: UNLOCKING MARKET POTENTIAL THROUGH ENGAGEMENT

28 October 2025

The Stewarding Value: Unlocking Market Potential Through Engagement research focuses on engagement between corporates and institutional investors, and its impact on influencing capital allocation and long-term company value.

Produced by the Stewardship Asia Centre (SAC)—secretariat for the Singapore Stewardship Principles for Responsible Investors (SSP)—the research underscores engagement as more than a compliance exercise. It is a strategic enabler that builds trust, transparency, and alignment between investors and companies, thereby strengthening overall market confidence.

The study aligns closely with the objectives of the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s (MAS) Equity Market Review Group, which seeks to boost the competitiveness of Singapore’s equities market and promote high-quality shareholder engagement. With support from SGX RegCo, the research captures insights from 292 institutional investors and leaders of SGX-listed companies, gathered through surveys, focus groups, and interviews.

Their openness and perspectives were invaluable in shaping findings that aim to advance investment stewardship and foster more effective capital markets in Singapore.

Alongside the report's findings, SAC created an accompanying Engagement Playbook – developed with contributions from practitioners - that outlines practical “good hygiene” principles, such as regular analyst briefings, accessible leadership, and proactive digital disclosure. Companies are encouraged to leverage the Engagement Playbook to strengthen their investor engagement practices and build long-term shareholder confidence.
